Political prioritization post: We really need to get on a workable plan for redistributing wealth, and find ways to talk about it that rural America can get behind. There’s a notion in the country that traditional working-class Americans have been subsidizing the urban poor. It’s not true, we’ve all been subsidizing the 1%, but we need to frame that in a way that everyone can understand. We use this to muster opposition to further foolish tax cuts that are coming down, and start building support for a tax plan that raises the top tax rate back to the pre-Reagan 50%, and raises the standard individual deduction to 30,000 or something. Something struggling families can sink their teeth into and relate to – literally no taxes for couples making 60,000 or less.
Show them the benefit, and we can close the sale.
